Right now, BC’s Labour Board is in crisis; facing a serious backlog of cases – delays that affect workers, businesses, and communities. When decisions take months instead of weeks, it leaves people in limbo, workplaces without resolution, and everyday British Columbians without the fair and timely decisions they deserve.
We’re calling on the government to properly fund the Labour Relations Board so it can do its job—clearing the backlog of outstanding cases, and ensuring fair, timely decisions for everyone.
We are also urging that the province take immediate steps to fix the law and ensure student workers are recognized as employees in the Labour Relations Code. Not only will this protect workers, it will also ensure the Labour Relations Board doesn’t spend their limited resources on something that is a basic right for all workers.
Whether it’s about workplace disputes, wages, joining a union or safety, these decisions matter. A well-functioning Labour Board isn’t just good for workers—it helps businesses, strengthens and stabilizes our economy, and ensures fairness for all.
It’s time to end the wait, fund the Labour Relations Board, and fix the law.
